Stop 11. Governor's Office. The chief executive officer of Massachusetts is the governor who, in their duties are assisted by a cabinet and the governor's council. Each cabinet secretary is appointed by the governor and is responsible for the implementation of policy in the departments under their jurisdiction. The eight members of the governor's Council approved the governor's judicial appointments and pardons, as well as Treasury spending.
Portraits of recent governors hang in this room through the door. On the right is the governor's office. Every governor has the opportunity to choose a portrait of a former governor to hang over the mantel in their office. For example, Governor Charlie Baker had a picture of John Volpe hanging in his office. The governor's suite was renovated in 2016 to its original colors and design from 1798.
