Welcome to the Massachusetts Historical Commission!

The MHC’s mission is to identify, document, evaluate, and protect important historical and archaeological assets for the Commonwealth.

The Commission, chaired by the Secretary of the Commonwealth, William Francis Galvin, consists of 17 members appointed from various disciplines. These members serve as the State Review Board for state and federal preservation programs. The State Historic Preservation Officer and the State Archaeologist also reside here.

The MHC meets on the second Wednesday of each month (except May, July, and August). View the Commission’s schedule here.
