Book an In-Person Tour of the State House
If you’re interested in touring the Massachusetts State House, you can either pursue a self-guided tour or a conducted tour with the State House Tours staff.
Tours are given weekdays year-round from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., free of charge. The building is open weekdays from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on weekends and holidays.
Self-Guided Tours
Visiting by yourself? You can acquire self-guided materials to guide you through the building and its history. We can provide materials in several foreign languages as needed. Stop by the State House Tours and Information desk in Doric Hall on the second floor for all information, and to check in for tours.
Note: Self-guided tours are only available for groups of 1-10 people. If you have a group of more than 10 people, we ask that you schedule a guided tour for the best experience.Conducted Tours
If you wish to book a guided in-person tour of the Massachusetts State House, you can contact the Tours office by phone at 617-727-3676. We can only accept tour reservations by phone, and advance reservations are required for conducted tours. We accept tour groups from one to fifty people, though groups of ten or more should be scheduled at least three weeks in advance.
State House tours are conducted by Tours office staff, and by volunteers well-versed in the history and architectural background of the State House.
School Class Tours
If you want to book a tour for your school class, please contact the Tours office at least three weeks before your requested date. Special instructional materials are available for teachers planning tours of the State House, and they are sent at the time the tour is booked. We can also provide additional educational materials for teachers who have included units on state government in their curriculum.

The State House is at the corner of Beacon and Park Streets, and you can reach it by MBTA via the Red or Green lines at the Park Street Station.
Enter the State House via the General Hooker Entrance on Beacon Street, at the top of Park Street. Walk past the statue of General Hooker up the stairs and pass through security.
For accessible entry, please enter from Bowdoin Street.
