Paul Revere began casting bells in 1792. Because bell casting was neither a standardized nor very scientific practice at the time, it took several attempts before he mastered the craft but, eventually, Revere bells were praised for their quality and sound. Revere bells were scattered around Boston at various churches and public spaces at a time when many large, artisan items like church bells were imported from Europe. The bell pictured above is the only Revere bell out of the hundreds that were cast that is outside of the United States; it was brought to Singapore by his daughter in 1843.
