Information for State Records Center Users

Modern record keeping practices use environmentally-controlled vault storage for permanent, non-current records. Because of these requirements, the former State Records Center (SRC) no longer serves as an off-site repository for records still within the custodial control of the creating authorities.

The Archives continues to work with agencies to return these non-permanent records, but the former SRC no longer accepts additional boxes. Please contact recordscenter@sec.state.ma.us to discuss disposition of any records your agency may still have on deposit.

The former SRC is not accessible to the public. Members of the public seeking access or copies of agency records still on deposit at the former SRC should contact the creating agency directly.

Agencies with questions regarding the custodial transfer of inactive, permanent records to the Archives on Columbia Point, or questions relative to the destruction of eligible, non-permanent records still housed in the former SRC, should contact the Massachusetts Archives.
