Journals of the Massachusetts Senate
With the adoption of the 1780 Constitution, the upper house of the General Court formally became known as the Senate of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
During its annual sessions, the Senate clerk maintains a record of actions taken by the Senate for each day of the legislative session. These proceedings, colloquially known as the Journal of the Senate, are collected and published at the end of each session.
Although the Senate intended to issue printed copies of the Journals as early as 1780, regular publication did not begin until 1868. Since that date, the Senate Clerk has produced printed volumes annually.
