We are working to make GPS Group Peer Support more available across the Commonwealth. We presented SD1491/HD2887 - An Act to establish a special commission to study the integration of support groups in to the healthcare system to Sen Friedman and Rep Khan who are the co-sponsors on this bill. A version of this bill was included in the Mental Health Parity bill that was passed by the Senate in February 2020.
We began working on the MASStrong program proposal in September 2021 seeking funding of $4 million to bring GPS Group Peer Support to frontline healthcare workers in partnership with the Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety. We worked with Sen Cindy Creem and Rep Ruth Balser on this who introduced the amendment to the ARPA budget bill. We were also in contact with Sen Cyr, Sen Friedman and Sen Comerford about this proposal. We secured $1 million to fund the program and the Governor signed it in December 2021.
