For the coming year, calendar year 2023, we will continue to engage the services of Ventry Associates LLP to support high-quality vocational technical and agricultural education in Massachusetts. This will include support for legislation to provide additional funding for renovation, expansion or replacement of vocational-technical high schools, a study of funding for capital construction projects, and as well as structural and programmatic improvements in the state agency that oversees vocational-technical education in Massachusetts. Ventry will also continue to educate MAVA members about state government and the legislative process.
During calendar year 2022, Ventry Associates LLP assisted MAVA in modifying Section 16(q) of Chapter 71 of the Massachusetts General Laws. With the change, regional schools and regional vocational-technical schools are now allowed to enter into 25-year leases for educational purposes. The law previously limited such leases to five years. This legislative change is found in Chapter 109 of the Acts of 268, signed into law by the Governor on November 10, 2022.
