House Bill
|
4011
|
An Act Relative to School Attendance
Mass Mentoring Partnership aims to push forward state legislation that will deeply embed developmental relationships into schools. This bill calls on the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop a 3-year pilot program for dropout prevention and recovery programs in school districts with annual dropout rates greater than the state average. This bill places mentoring relationships as an integral part of the solution, by providing young people with the social-emotional supports they need to succeed in school and beyond.
Currently, MMP's efforts involve getting this bill released from House Ways and Means favorably before the end of the legislative session.

Mentoring Matching Grants Line item (7061-9634)
This line item includes funding provided by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Originally created in FY99, the Mentoring Matching Grant funding is the only state investment solely dedicated to expanding quality mentoring across Massachusetts. The primary goal of this funding is to increase the number of high-quality mentoring matches through grants to public and private agencies as a strategy to assist in closing the persistent achievement gap among Massachusetts youth.
