Municipal Preliminary Elections

Most cities in Massachusetts hold preliminary elections before their November municipal elections, if there are enough candidates running. Similar to primaries, these non-partisan elections are used to narrow down the candidates for the November ballot.

November 4, 2025 – Municipal Election Day

Fifty-five cities and towns in Massachusetts hold biennial municipal elections in November of each odd-numbered year. All other towns annual town elections each spring.
