Opening Reception: The Art of Birds

Louis Agassiz Fuertes was one of the most renowned American bird painters in the tradition of John James Audubon. During the 1920’s the Commonwealth published a three volume set featuring his series the "Birds of Massachusetts."

On September 19, 2013 the Commonwealth Museum displayed original Fuertes paintings, now preserved in the Massachusetts Archives, to benefit the Massachusetts Audubon’s Bird Conservation Initiatives and Museum of American Bird Art.
