Welcome to the Northern Essex District
Registry of Deeds

The Registry of Deeds is a recording office of all land transactions in Northern Essex County including Andover, Lawrence, Methuen and North Andover. We are also a research library for recorded land transactions. Our records date back to 1869.

To be on our e-mail list and receive updates about our web site please send your e-mail address to Timothy.Scanlon@sec.state.ma.us

Recorded land indexes are in the computer from January 2, 1981 to current, and Land Court indexes are in the computer from 1995 to current.

Our Registry office does provide real estate closing tables.

Types of instruments that get recorded in our office include the following:
deeds, easements, liens, mortgages, special permits, orders of condition and plot plans.

Changes at the Registry

In an effort to reduce space, lower rent and save jobs here at the Essex North Registry of Deeds, it became necessary to remove all recorded land books and plans from our office.

However, all books and plans have been copied and scanned and are readily available for viewing here at the Lawrence registry or at lawrencedeeds.com.

Postage Policy:

We will not allow any document for recording through the mail without a self-addressed stamped return envelope enclosed. If none is included, the original document will be returned unrecorded.

Hours:

Research hours: 8:00 AM-4:30 PM, M-F
Recording hours: 8:00 AM-4:00 PM, M-F
