The Atrium: The atrium is an area utilized for real estate closings.

Record Hall/Document Reception: This is a work area for title examiners, they use this area as their office. On any given day you will see well over 100 title examiners working in this registry. They are generally here at 7:30 in the morning and many stay until 5:00 in the evening.

The Bindery: The Middlesex South Registry has over 50,000 books containing recorded transactions since 1648. These books, used daily by title examiners and the general public, are constantly in need of repairs. We have a bindery department where emergency repairs are made to books. We are one of a very few registries that have a bindery and still repair books.

At the present time, the Registries of Deeds throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are conducting various pilot electronic recording programs, allowing us to test various applications and select an appropriate electronic recording solution for all of the Registries of Deeds. In the Spring of 2010, Secretary Galvin and the Registers of Deeds shall evaluate the programs, select their preferred solution and implement it throughout the Commonwealth. At that time, customers will be able to use recording services that will allow them to file their land records at any of the Registries of Deeds. Updates will be posted here as the pilot program continues. Please feel free to contact the Registries of Deeds with any questions.

Welcome to the website for the Middlesex South District Registry of Deeds. Located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Middlesex South Registry of Deeds is the largest and busiest land records office in New England and one of the busiest in the United States. In FY 2008, with a staff of 67 and a budget of $3,700,000 we processed more than 253,000 documents, bringing in revenues to the Commonwealth in the amount of $68,000,000.

The Middlesex South Registry of Deeds is the recording office for documents affecting title to real estate located in the southern district of Middlesex County. Documents that are in compliance with Massachusetts law are accepted for recording at the Registry and become permanent public records. The recording of documents, such as deeds and mortgages, allows the public, including prospective purchasers of real estate, a method to determine the status of the title to that property.

The South Middlesex Registry District includes the following cities and towns:

ACTON, ARLINGTON, ASHBY, ASHLAND, AYER, BEDFORD, BELMONT, BOXBOROUGH, BURLINGTON, CAMBRIDGE, CONCORD, EVERETT, FRAMINGHAM, GROTON, HOLLISTON, HOPKINTON, HUDSON, LEXINGTON, LINCOLN, LITTLETON, MALDEN, MARLBOROUGH, MAYNARD, MEDFORD, MELROSE, NATICK, NEWTON, NORTH READING, PEPPERELL, READING, SHERBORN, SHIRLEY, SOMERVILLE, STONEHAM, STOW, SUDBURY, TOWNSEND, WAKEFIELD, WALTHAM, WATERTOWN, WAYLAND, WESTON, WINCHESTER, WOBURN .

The Registry has been maintaining property records since 1649. My staff and I are committed to serving the public by providing improved access, and utilizing state-of-the-art technology such as on-line document imaging.
