Map Extension Activities

  • Create a map museum by collecting many different maps and display them in your classroom.
  • Students draw a map of their room, classroom, or neighborhood. They should try to include a key, cartouche, symbols, scale grid, etc.
  • Collect various maps of your town or city. Compare a current map with one from years ago. Reflect on similarities and differences. Have students imagine how their town will change in 50 or 100 years and reflect those changes in a map of their town in the future.
  • Research the Points of Interest labeled on the map you made. Add additional POI that you think are important or that interest you.
