Judge’s Lecture Series

In partnership with local schools, the Commonwealth Museum is sponsoring a lecture series on significant cases in Massachusetts’ legal history.

Judge Julian Houston

Superior Court Judge Julian Houston discussed the struggle for African-American rights in Massachusetts. Included were the cases of “Mum Bett” and Quok Walker - abolishing slavery in the Commonwealth - and the story of fugitive slave Anthony Burns. Judge Houston developed the Long Road To Justice project that includes a traveling exhibit, curriculum, and web exhibit. For details see: www.longroadtojustice.org. Judge Hiller B. Zobel

Judge Hiller B. Zobel examined the Boston Massacre trial with a group of advanced placement history students from the Boston Latin School. (John Adams defended British soldiers indicted after the incident.) Judge Zobel’s book, The Boston Massacre, is the standard work on the case.
