Since 1969 the Snowmobile Association of Massachusetts has represented snowmobile recreationists in Massachusetts.
Our Statewide Snowmobile Trail System (SSTS) runs from Connecticut to Vermont and from New York to Worcester. It contains over 2,000 miles of trails with about 1,000 miles that are groomed at least weekly with our fleet of 100+ trail groomers. Our trail system is unique in that we utilize many miles of trails on private lands to interconnect state lands. Our members visit state lands over 300,000 times annually during our very short winter season. We are low impact trail users.
SAM and its 30 member clubs are self-funded. Our dedicated volunteers have donated many thousands of hours maintaining trails on state land, and have returned hundreds of thousands of dollars (including Recreational Trail Funds) on state lands. These trails are enjoyed by cross country skiers, snowshoers, dogsledders, hikers, bicyclists, walkers, hunters, fishermen and horseback riders.
