How are shipping and expedited service fees determined?

The total cost of your order will include shipping and handling, the expedited service fee, and a sales tax on non-governmental items if applicable. All prices are subject to change. The two tables below show the fees applied to subtotal ranges.

Only payment by MasterCard, Visa or American Express will be accepted.


How long until I receive my item?

Please allow approximately one week for delivery.


What are the computer system requirements to order online?

The following is required to order online:

  • A browser supporting 128-bit encryption
  • JavaScript must be turned on
  • A MasterCard, Visa or American Express Credit Card.

How does the online ordering system work?

Find the publication or gift item you want to order by browsing the Bookstore catalog or by using search function.

Once you have located the item, click on the "Add to cart" button next to it to put item into your shopping cart. You will be brought to the shopping cart page where you can review your selection and change item quantities. You can either continue shopping or proceed to checkout at this point.

When you proceed to checkout, you will be asked to enter shipping and contact information for your order. If you fail to enter required information, the system will alert you and request that you enter the missing information.

Once all required information is entered and you click the "Submit" button, the secure connection will be open to process payment information. We accept payments done by MasterCard, Visa or American Express.

After you enter payment information, click the "Submit" button. You will be given an opportunity to review the payment information.

If all the information looks correct, click the "Accept" button. If not, click the "Edit" button to change payment information.

Currently credit cards are the only way to pay for an online order. If you do not have a credit card or do not wish to use a credit card, other payment options are available at the State Bookstore located at the State House, Room 116, Boston, MA 02133. Our phone number is 617-727-2834.

Once your credit card has been processed you will be given an acknowledgement screen detailing information regarding the transaction. You may want to print this information for reference.

If for some reason your credit card transaction is not approved, you will receive an error immediately. You have the opportunity to go back to your shopping cart and re-submit your order.

If we can not complete your order, you will be contacted either by phone or email.


How do I enter data into the online form?

Data is entered on the form by positioning the cursor on the desired input field and typing. Use Tab, or a mouse action to move from field to field and Backspace to make corrections.


Is the contact information required?

Contact information is required on all online orders. Name, shipping address and either a phone number or email address is required. This information becomes important if we can not process your order or if there are other questions about it. For more information please see our Privacy Statement.


What are the mail order instructions?

All orders must be prepaid by check or money order payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Please allow approximately one week for delivery. Prices are subject to change. We require a street address and phone number to ensure proper delivery. Orders should be sent to the following address:

Refund Policy for Online Purchases

The bookstore will refund any online order within 30 days of the purchase date provided the merchandise is returned in saleable condition. Proof of purchase is required. All refunds will be issued directly to customer's credit card.
