The McKinney Shelter Plus Care Program provides rental assistance to homeless individuals and families with disabilities, primarily those with mental illnesses, substance abuse issues and those with HIV/AIDS.

The Local Housing Authority targets homeless families in need of services in order to move to permanent housing. This involves the use of state aided and conventional housing as transitional housing that homeless families will occupy while participating in the program. Opportunities are then available to go under lease with the Local Housing Authority that provide the unit to families graduating from the program.
