This is an independent agency which both administers and enforces the Campaign Finance Laws, MGL Chapter 55. Candidates for state and county elective offices as well as political action committees (PACs) and ballot question committees file reports disclosing campaign-related contributions and expenditures here. Local candidates and committees file with the respective city/town clerk or board of election commissioners. Other aspects of the office include the administration of the state's public financing system, issuance of advisory opinions and interpretative bulletins, and oversight of public employees' political activity.
