The Municipal Police Training Committee membership, comprised of leading criminal justice officials, provides and approves training curricula for criminal justice agencies including officers at municipal police departments, correctional facilities, secure facilities for juveniles, and parole officers. The committee also approves and offers in-service training on various topics including rape investigation, domestic violence, suicide prevention, hate crimes, and the administration of breathalyzer tests. Additionally, the committee oversees regional police academies in the following communities: New Bedford; Plymouth; Randolph; Reading and Springfield

The Office of Grants and Research this is the state's planning agency for federal and state criminal justice grants. On an annual basis, the office provides funding and training to the cities and towns of Massachusetts through its various grant programs to include justice and education, highway safety, homeland security and law enforcement issues. It serves as staff to the Governor's Statewide Anti-Crime Council and administers the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program for local Massachusetts communities.  D.A.R.E. is a drug abuse prevention and education program designed to equip elementary school children with the necessary skills needed to resist the peer pressure to experiment with drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
