The former Department of Telecommunications and Energy has been split into two agencies. The Department of Public Utilities, which regulates the rates and practices of the state's utilities including gas, electricity, transportation and water, and the Department of Telecommunications and Cable which handles telecommunication and cable companies operating in Massachusetts and falls under the Office of consumer Affairs and Business Regulations.
