The Auto Theft Hotline, a joint venture of the Executive Office of Public Safety and the Governor's Auto Theft Strike Force, is funded to conduct investigations, combat the occurrence of stolen automobiles and auto parts, and recover stolen vehicles. It also runs an automobile window glass etching program aimed at preventing theft, called the "Watch Your Car Program" by using the vehicle identification number. Available to local police departments in the state, owners voluntarily participate.
