More commonly referred to as the Executive Office of Public Safety, the secretariat is responsible for the development and oversight of agencies, programs, and several boards, which fight crime and ensure the safety of all residents and visitors in the Commonwealth. The major departments are the: Architectural Access Board; Board of Building Regulation and Standards; Department of Criminal Justice Information Services; Department of Correction; Department of Fire Services; Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency; Department of State Police; Massachusetts National Guard; Office of the Chief Medical Examiner; Massachusetts Parole Board; Sex Offender Registry Board; and the State 911 Department. In addition, it is administratively responsible for, the Highway Safety Division, Commonwealth Public Safety Broadband Office, Office of Grants and Research, State Police Crimes Laboratory/Forensic Services Group and the Harbormaster Training Council.
