Formerly the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, the recently renamed and reorganized Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs serves as the principal agency for improving the quality of the environment and protecting the natural resources of the Commonwealth. It is an administrative office which is responsible for the management and policy decisions of the departments under its aegis: the Department of Environmental Protection, the Department of Conservation and Recreation, the Department of Fish and Game, and the Department of Agricultural Resources. Other offices and divisions include the Office of Coastal Zone Management, which protects the Commonwealth's shoreline, implements the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act, which examines all major economic development projects, Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, and the Massachusetts Office of Geographic and Environmental Information System. Recently reorganized, the office now oversees the Department of Public Utilities and the Division of Energy Resources.
