The Department of Children and Families was created by the legislature in 1978 to be responsible for the enforcement and supervision of the laws regarding the reporting, investigating, evaluation, and management of alleged child abuse cases, serious physical or emotional injuries, neglect, or addictions at birth. This office serves Boston and the metropolitan area. To report cases outside of this area during normal business hours, call the local office. On weekends and after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, call the toll free "Child-At-Risk" hotline. Call, or visit their website for a listing of regional offices.
