Forum 2003 - Celebrating History: Anniversaries to Educate, Promote and Preserve HistoryThe Sixth Annual Community Forum on Historical Records, Celebrating History: Anniversaries to Educate, Promote and Preserve History will be held on May 9, 2003 at Merrimack College in North Andover. Organized by Secretary of the Commonwealth William Francis Galvin, the Massachusetts Historical Records Advisory Board and the Essex National Heritage Commission, the forum will bring together archivists, historians, librarians, educators, scholars, enealogists and other interested parties from public, private, and nonprofit organizations. Keynote speaker, Bill Jackson, senior archivist of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company, will share his experience and the role of archives in the planning and development of this year's centennial anniversary celebration of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company. The forum will offer a full day of speakers and sessions to examine the practical ways historical records and archival materials can be utilized in the celebration of histories, anniversaries and commemorative activities. "Celebrating History: Anniversaries to Educate, Promote and Preserve History" will build upon the success of the previous forums: Advocating Massachusetts History (1998), Building Alliances (1999), Documenting Our Heritage (2000), Telling Our Stories (2001), and Documenting Underdocumented Populations & Communities (2002). Participants will have ample opportunities to meet representatives of the organizations that support the forum, as well as their colleagues and neighbors in the historical records community. We look forward to seeing you at the Sixth Annual Community Forum on Historical Records where together we will explore the many different ways of documenting, preserving and celebrating the history of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and its people. For additional information regarding attending, presenting, or sponoring the forum please contact Bill Milhomme, Field Archivist at (617) 727-2816 x257 william.milhomme@sec.state.ma.us |
