Records Conservation Board
About the Board
The Records Conservation Board, organized by MGL c 30, § 42, is composed of the Supervisor of Public Records, the State Archivist, the Attorney General, the Comptroller, the Commissioner of Administration and Finance, and the State Librarian. No state agency records may be destroyed or transferred without the approval of the Board.
The functions of the Board are to:
- To approve or amend the Statewide Records Retention Schedule, which describe the lifespan of the state government record.
- To approve Transfer and Destruction Permissions which authorize the agency to implement the provisions of the Statewide Records Retention Schedule on a specific increment of records
- To set standards for the management of state records.
The Board meets the first Wednesday of every month at the State Library on the third floor of the State House.
